I'm white and grew up in predominantly black area in Los Angeles. I have three nieces and a nephew who are half Hispanic and half white. Their fathers, my sister's ex-husbands are Hispanic. Of those nieces and nephew, my nephew is married to a black lady with whom he has two beautiful baby girls who are half black, part Hispanic and part white. His stepdaughter from his wife's first marriage is bi-racial, half black and half white. I also have cousins who are part Asian, Native American, Hispanic and White with a little bit of Creole thrown into the mix for good measure. Most of my friends are also from mixed backgrounds because I choose to associate with a vey diverse group of people. I am very proud of my ethnically diverse family and will print out the above document to give to my nephew to give to his girls when they are old enough to read and understand the meaning behind it, to celebrate and embrace their ethnicity.
